Recognize the picture on the right? I wouldn't expect you to, it's at an angle from what you might normally see. It's my record (vinyl) player, with a copy of Def Leppard's Hysteria in Picture Disc form on it. (Only fitting, it was the 25th Anniversary of the album's release yesterday, Aug 3rd.) To not delve too deep into history, vinyl was one of first and only ways to preserve music into a form that could be sold to the mass public. The basic premise that the sound is "etched" into grooves that is then read by a needle (or a laser for the more modern and high priced players) that translates the sound into something you can hear. Vinyl is also an analog format, not digital like your CD's and Mp3's are, which leads some people to say that it has a better sound. It's a matter of opinion, as I think it sounds warmer, or has a better definition. Some tones I can't hear, but I can tell the difference between records and digitally processed sound. There are others still that say digital is better. Doesn't matter really, to each their own, just so long you enjoy it. | I myself am a self proclaimed musical nut, but I also have a narrow vision: I love Rock and I seldom deviate from that. If I was to narrow it down by decades, I like the 80's and 90's the most for various reasons. Once we get the site rolling a little better, I'm sure we'll have new ideas and content to get you guys excited about. I know I'm pretty pumped about the music section, I have a number of ideas already that I'd love to write about, time permitting. Speaking of time, it's quite early in the morning for me, so I'm gonna bounce. Keep on rockin, and don't forget there's always a Side B to a mix tape. <hackersarchangel> |
